Black Box, AI and inhumanity

Black Box, AI and inhumanity - Black and White Photo of Human Hand and Robot Hand

About the black box (spoilers!)

Why is it stated that installing standard AI (instead of black box) is considered inhumane? After all standard AI is also artificial, and may be even less conscious than the black box?

Is this related to setting from other games in the series?

Best Answer

Earlier in the game it is revealed that humans were extinct before the alien invasion. So it would have been other androids building the YoRHa units.

Presumably those androids believed that their consciousness was superior (or at least distinct) from machine consciousness, so it would be more humane to use (enslave?) machine consciousness when making the soldiers.

As you play the game, you might get the idea that the differences are far smaller than those androids assumed.

What is the black box in AI?

Black box AI is any artificial intelligence system whose inputs and operations are not visible to the user or another interested party. A black box, in a general sense, is an impenetrable system.

What is black box model?

What Is a Black Box Model? In science, computing, and engineering, a black box is a device, system, or object which produces useful information without revealing any information about its internal workings. The explanations for its conclusions remain opaque or “black.”

What is the metaphor of the black box?

The black box metaphor dates back to the early days of cybernetics and behaviourism, and typically refers to a system for which we can only observe the inputs and outputs, but not the internal workings. Indeed, this was the way in which B. F. Skinner conceptualized minds in general.

Why neural network is black box?

At the most basic level, “black box” just means that, for deep neural networks, we don't know how all the individual neurons work together to arrive at the final output. A lot of times it isn't even clear what any particular neuron is doing on its own.
