Is it possible to start a multiplayer game of Civ 5 on a LAN connection, save the game in progress, and then at a later point, continue the game over the internet? If so, how can I do this?
Best Answer
After every turn, the game is saved automatically. After you stop playing on a LAN game, you can normally restart by loading the saved game (which takes you to the lobby, so all the players can join again (or be replaced by AI if they don't want to join again)).
I imagine the process would be similar online.

Copied to clipboard! You can simply save the game like in SP or use the auto save. Then load the game and it will be again a public or private multiplayer lobby. Can you play Civ 5 on LAN?
Civilisation V still provides a "LAN" multiplayer. All you would have to do after having setup the family mode on your brother's computer, would be to launch steam offline on one of your computers, launch Civ 5 and create a LAN game. How do I play local network games in Civ 6?
Update: Saving in multiplayer is now simply an item on the menu, accessible by pressing escape. (I can't recall off the top of my head if only the host can save, or if any player can save.) Old answer from before saving was simple below: No, you can not manually save in multiplayer.internet dropping out solved!! issue with online gaming?
