Does the game auto-selects the tuning profile in NFSU2?

In Need for Speed Underground 2, one can tune the car's characteristics. But upon entering the tuning screen, one needs to choose among several 'profiles', i.e., Circuit, Drag, Drift, StreetX, and URL.

My question: Does the game auto-selects which profile to use when entering a race? Or must I first go to, say the garage, and manually choose the profile to use prior to finding & entering a race?

In Need for Speed: Underground 2, for instance, you can have up to five cars for which you need five garage slots. Unlocking Car Slots will take some time, but it's worth it if you want to own lots of cars.

How do you drift in NFSU2?

Hold the handbrake (R1 is the default button for Playstation 2) briefly. Turn towards the corner or turn with the brake, the car will slide around sort of sideways. Sling yourself back in the opposite to turning direction. Just drive away.
