After playing the game for a little while, I've noticed that Pokestops are chosen seemingly at random locations on the map. A few of them are even in inaccessible places; an abandoned church building, inside of an airforce base, etc. How are these locations chosen as Pokestops?

How does a Pokestop get created?

One player nominates a location, submitting a photo of the location and answering a handful of questions to help determine eligibility. Other high-level players will review these submissions, helping to filter out the ones that are inaccurate, offensive or just not right for the game.

Can I make my house a Pokestop?

People who live in rural areas, rejoice! But don't count on Niantic to approve the request. It's about to become much easier to catch 'em all.

How long does it take for a Pokestop to be approved?

The Regional/Country ones are only taking 1-3 weeks to go through to acceptance. I've got City ones still in voting after 90+ days. A lot will depend on the amount of submissions v reviewers for the area it was nominated.
