How do I (not) drift in Twister Race?

When playing Captain Falcon's Twister Race, I seem to drift a lot, whether or not I intend to. This can be a bit annoying, as it tends to slow forward progress unless you know exactly what you're doing. I'd very much like to not drift, but I haven't seen much telling me about drifting (only a loading-screen-tip that doesn't say how), so I don't know what to stop doing!

How do you stop spinning when drifting?
Transition the drift by slightly over rotating the car just before you want to change direction \u2013 and then lift off the accelerator. To exit the drift, release the throttle at the correct time and ease off the steering angle. How do you get out of a drift?
Go into a corner @ 50kms in 2nd gear, turn in sharply and floor the accelerator, this will engage oversteer. Let the wheel slide through your hands, and resist over-corrective steering too early. blip the throttle while going through the corner to hold the drift.[TM] Speed Drifting Tutorial
