How does +1 upgrades affect a battle in Starcraft 2?

What does +1 mean in Starcraft 2? I know it is a +1 level upgrade for weapons or armor, but how does this affect the battle?
Let's take a Terran Marine. With no upgrades it deals 6 points of damage. I assume this means that on one shoot burst on another Terran Marine for example, the enemy you're shooting at will lower its life from 45 to 39.
How many life points will the Terran Marine with +1 weapons upgrade take from an no upgrades enemy Terran Marine then?

How do upgrades work in Starcraft?
Upgrades affect each attack, so if a unit attacks in volleys it will gain the bonus on each separate attack, rather than as a bulk addition to the whole attack. Note that attack upgrades do not apply to damage caused by abilities. Increase the damage of Terran infantry units. How important are upgrades sc2?
Generally, attack upgrades are more important because of the fact that attack upgrades often add more than +1 damage, whereas armor upgrades always remove one point of damage (with the exception of units with multiple hits in their attack, discussed below). What does armor do in sc2?
Armor is an attribute every unit and structure with health points bears. Damage from incoming attacks is reduced by the amount of armor: each point of armor reduces the damage received by one point. Units attacking in volleys, such as the Zealot and the Thor, have the target's armor applied to each of their attacks.StarCraft 2 Upgrades Explained (Terran, Protoss, Zerg)
