How does Min Pressure affect chutes in Kerbal Space Program?

I like to set my chutes to deploy at 50 meters because I don't have time to hang around (pun - get it?). But I've crashed several ships after accidentally changing the min pressure as well.

How does Min Pressure work?
And does it effect the way the Altitude parameter functions?

What does min pressure do KSP?
As KSP 1.0 introduced a new system modeling aerodynamics and drag, the following claims should be taken with a pinch of salt. MBreadley's comment pretty much sums it up: min pressure is minimum to deploy the chute at all, critical for celestial bodies with thin atmosphere. Altitude is for full deploy mode. Why is my parachute not deploying KSP?
If you press the spacebar and the chute icons light up but they don't deploy, it's typically because the pressure is too low. You can hit the stage button in space and they'll deploy on their own as soon as it's "safe".What altitude do you deploy parachute KSP?
Altitude (50-5 000 m) - The full deployment's altitude above ground level.When should I deploy parachute KSP?
Once the ship has re-entered the atmosphere and is descending towards the space center at reckless speeds, it is time to engage the parachutes. This should happen automatically if the player presses the Space Bar until the stage containing the parachutes is activated.8 STUPID MISTAKES everybody makes in Kerbal Space Program
