When you win a war against a opponent, you can vassalize him to be a subject-Empire. This is explained on the official wiki:

A Vassal is the most controlled type of subject-Empire. They will automatically join their Overlord's wars, aggressive and defensive, and they have no autonomy when it comes to foreign policy or diplomatic relations. A vassal also runs the risk of a full diplomatic integration by their Overlord.

However, I don't find how to do a full diplomatic integration of a vassal?

How do you integrate vassals?

Making DemandsIn the \u201cEmpires\u201d tab, select the empire, click \u201cCommunicate,\u201d and then see what the \u201cDemand Vassalization\u201d button looks like. If it has a green tick, it means you can demand vassalization right now. If it has a red cross, however, there are some hoops you'll need to jump through.

How do you demand Vassalize?

Unlike tributaries, vassals do not provide any kind of tribute. They are also unable to expand, which can be good if you're worried about subject empires trying to muscle in on your territories. Vassals will also join in your war efforts.

Can vassals expand Stellaris?

Wiki says in 2.0 they can still self expand, but I've learned not to trust that wiki. tributaries might actually, now that i think about it. check the tooltips for feudal soceity and tributaries in game between those two it should probably mention what they can and cant do.
