I can't choose my characters while LAN with my friend in DST

Even if either one of us hosts the server, the player other than the host was unable to choose their character.

(Example: I choose Wilson, my friend automatically became Wilson while in-game without a choice)

How to set up a multiplayer server in Don't Starve Together

From the main menu Play -> Host Server.

Set up your server name and password.

Choose if you want it to be for friends only or everybody can join your server.

Set up a number of players you want to play with.

Set a server type to LAN.

Click Create Server.
