If I populate lots with various households, will the sims find careers and work on their own?

If I populate lots with various households, will the sims find careers and work on their own? - Female ethnic gardeners with pots in glasshouse

For the households that aren't being played, how much autonomy do the sims that live in lots have? Will they find careers on their own? If I place them into a career, will they progress based on the needs of their career and/or their interest/personality? Will they make friends (and even get married or have kids)?

Best Answer

I've seen both regular and townie sims interact with each other in public areas - therefore making friends, but I've found they also improve (and maintain) that relationship aswell.

I've had two generated sims move in, have children, and start off in a career without me access the household. (I would assume that all sims improve in all careers despite traits and skills too.)

An active sim (i.e. Summer Holiday) would jog and build fitness skill. It's the same with other emotional traits too.

Skills and their preferred Traits:

  • Comedy and Mischief - Goofball
  • Fitness - Active
  • Charisma - Self-Assured
  • Painting, Violin, Piano, Guitar, Cooking, Gourmet Cooking, Mixology - Creative, Gloomy
  • Logic, Handiness, Rocket Science, Gardening - Genius

If (NPC) sims have access to skill building items (i.e. chessboard) they will use it and build skill.

Basically, unattended sims- both regular and generated are the same (autonomy wise).

Will Sims get a job on their own?

Yes, the Sims that you play will be able to get a job anywhere. The Sims that you don't play may stay unemployed or get jobs as mixologists, gardeners, etc.

Can you control multiple households in Sims 4?

You can create a new family from within the game. Either choose the lot you want the family to live and create a new family from the menu there (I'll add pics later if you don't find it) or click on the icon with the two people in the upper right corner on map view and create a new family from the household manager.

Do unplayed Sims go to work?

They should go to work while you're not playing them but you only see this if you want to invite them over during their work hours. You'll be getting a message that they are busy. So when you switch back to a house, they should still have the same amount of money like they had the last time you played them.

Do Sims progress on their own Sims 4?

Technically, there is no story progression in this game, which is why the non-active households don't do much on their own. At one point a patch was put in, so that they at least now have jobs.
