What exactly is the difference between infusing with a faint stone and infusing with a magic stone?

I seem to understand, that a faint stone will cause a weapon to deal magic damage or a shield to reduce incoming magic damage. But what does a magic stone do?

The wiki pages left me rather clueless...

Background: I'm a sorcerer, carrying the Witch Tree branch to cast spells and using a sword in the off-hand for enemies with high magic resistance. I infused the branch with a faintstone, as was suggested in another question.

What is a Faintstone?

Faintstones are upgrade materials in Dark Souls II. An altered state of titanite. Used to imbue weapons with magic or provide magic reduction to shields. Sorcerers at the "Melfian Academy" once attempted to imbue titanite with various elements, but are said to have failed.

What does infusing do ds2?

Infusing a shield will increase its damage reduction for that element to varying degrees, depending on the shield, while lowering all other defenses. Few shields can be infused to receive 100% damage reduction against specific elements. Armor cannot be infused.

What does enchanting a weapon Do Dark Souls 2?

Turns out it converts the magic bonus stat into physical damage on weapons on which it is applied. This adds Intelligence scaling for physical damage and reduces normal physical scaling (Dexterity and/or Strength).

Where can I get a Faintstone in Dark Souls 2?

Faintstone is a type of upgrade material in Dark Souls 2....Location
  • One of the items that can be received from The Sparkling Sisters Dyna and Tillo in exchange for a Smooth and Silky Stone.
  • One can be obtained in the Dragon Shrine, on the corpse near the Priest who casts the lightning orbs at you.
