My gamecard has been missing for quite some time, and from the announcement of splatoon 3 ive wanted to play it more than ever, but I cannot find this card. i've gotten very far in the game though - if I buy a replacement gamecard, will i be able to pick up where I left off using game data from the switch or is this not possible?
Best Answer
According to Nintendo, whatever you do in-game, will be saved onto your Nintendo Switch's system memory, therefore allowing you to continue where you left off. Also, your data should still be there even if you buy the digital version of Splatoon, so you can still play where you left off on the cartridge version of the game.
You can find even more information about the system's data management on Nintendo's customer support website here.

Is save data stored on the switch or game card?
On Nintendo Switch, game save data is stored in the console's system memory. This will not change whether downloadable software or software from a game card is being played. Game save data cannot be saved or copied to a microSD card. What happens if I lose a switch game card?
Short answer NO. You rebuy them unless they are Digital Games then you redownload them but Physical you rebuy the game. I ended up having an interesting conversation about this. I assume that when buying a game on a cart, you are buying the actual cartridge - what is on it is immaterial. Will I lose my save data if I get a new switch?
Once the transfer is complete, the save data file on the source system is deleted. Both systems must have system menu version 8.0. 0 or higher, be connected to the Internet, and near each other. Save data can only be transferred between users that are linked to the same Nintendo Account.Nintendo Switch How to transfer/redownload/archive games and DLC
