Skyrim-enb crash to desktop

Skyrim-enb crash to desktop - Black and white of anonymous male surfer riding on wave with raised arm against cloudy sky in stormy weather outside

I've been trying to install enbs on skyrim for a while now. However, when I try to use Realvision's installer I get some error about a missing file and it fails to install. When I try to manually install a different enb, it seems to work until I load a save, after which it crashes to the desktop.

I have also tried editing the video memory usage in the enb's ini file, with no success. Enbs has worked before but I had to reinstall my game and haven't worked since.

What can I do to get it to work?

Why does Skyrim keep crashing to desktop?

Most users claim that the random crashing to desktop while playing Skyrim can be attributed to your shadow settings. No matter how good your PC is, this problem can affect you and you can try to solve it using the simplest of all tweaks: lowering the quality of shadows or turning them off completely.

Can ENB cause crashes?

I was using Cinematic Excellence whose reshade files don't seem to pose a problem, but ENB ones are prone to cause crash.

How do I stop my modded Skyrim from crashing?

Mod Conflict
  • Open your load order.
  • Disable half of your currently active mods, ensuring that no dependencies break upon doing so.
  • Start Skyrim to see if the issue persists.
  • If so, disable half of your currently active mods again and test once again.
  • Repeat until the problem goes away.

  • What button opens ENB?

By default, [F12]. This will turn the ENB effects on and off. This must be pressed together with KeyCombination key (Shift+F12 by default).
