What happens to subscribed items if they are removed from the workshop?

Suppose you find a model in the Source Filmmaker Workshop that you really like. You decide to download it and use it for whatever you want to make. However, the workshop entry gets deleted sometime afterwards, either by the creator or Valve. What happens to the model you downloaded? Can you never download it again? Will it be removed from your pc, too? Do I need to back it up somewhere else in case Gaben comes after me with the ban hammer?
