What is the difference between Protect and Detect?
In Pokemon, there are two moves. Protect and Detect. On the outside, they seem to be exactly the same, besides PP amounts and move types. Are there any other differences between these two moves, or are they practically clones?
Best Answer
Not only are they clones in functionally every way right now, they also run off the same counter, so using Protect or Detect will also cause the other to have a chance to fail on the following turn.
If we ever see some ability that specifically affects Normal or Fighting-type moves, they might behave differently, but not right now.

Why do people use detect instead of protect?
However, in doubles play, Detect is far less likely to be affected by Imprison due to its lesser distribution, and is often used instead of Protect if the Pokemon has access to it. The key idea is that it's a lesser used "Protect".What is the point of detect Pokemon?
Detect protects the user from all effects of moves that target it during the turn it is used, including damage. If it or other protection moves are used consecutively, its success rate decreases. If powered up by a Fightinium Z into Z-Detect, the user's evasion rises one stage. Can you use detect and protect consecutively?
No you can't use them together. If you use Detect, Protect or Endure, using any of them again will make the accuracy 50%. So it could work for a few turns but will fail pretty quickly. What is the TM for Protect?

It was TM17 from Generation II to Pok\xe9mon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and TM07 in Pok\xe9mon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!. It is TM25 in Generation VIII.Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/ IPS) | Security Basics
