Why can't I start the quest without the Dawnguard leader attacking me?
I recently bought the legendary edition of Skyrim. While trying to start the Dawnguard DLC quest, when it said to "speak with the leader of the Dawnguard", I tried to complete that objective but every time I try to speak with the Dawnguard leader, he keeps attacking me. Does anyone know how I can stop that from happening?

Don't know if you've fixed it but, what I did when the Dawnguard attacked me-in the middle of the questline-was going to Riften, hitting a guard, putting sword away, get arrested and paid 40 gold for the assault. It worked immediately. Takes a few minutes to try, depending on if you instant travel or walk to Fort Dawnguard.

Why do Dawnguard keep attacking me?
Most likely this glitch occurred in Riften because that is the Dawnguards area in part, so fast travel to Riften and attack a guard. Be sure that if you have a follower or Serana with you that you have them wait somewhere outside of town.Is there a way to get the Dawnguard to stop attacking you?
How do you stop these attacks? You do random quests for the Volkihar until you get a quest to kill the Dawnguard leaders. The attacks stop after that. If you are impatient you can save outside of the castle and reload every time they give you a different one, until you get the one you need. Will the Dawnguard attack me if I become a vampire?
No, they will no not attack you. I sided with the Dawnguard and became a vampire lord after finishing their main quest. Every NPC at the fort tells me to get cured, but none attacks me. Get cured if you need to buy crossbow bolts, get more radiant quests or use other services that the npc's provide.Liz Phair - Why Can't I? (Official Video)

On assumption of you playing PC I have the answer! Go to console commands (Default Hotkey: ~ Key) click on Isran (while console command is open) and type

Hope this helped!
Answer 3
You can try resetting Isran.
Go back to Skyrim, rest for 30 days in-game time, and try again. This will ensure Isran and everything in his map area are reset.
