Why can't I use durneviir shout?

Why can't I use durneviir shout? - Attentive female driver in casual outfit and headband filling up modern automobile with automotive fuel gun on petrol station while looking down

I shout Durn, to come to Tamriel, but it won't work. I did it at throat of the world, and other open areas. Why won't it let me get him?

This shout requires you to use all three words to actually summon him while aiming at the ground like most summoning spells. Be aware that even then you have to have enough open flat space.. which is actually pretty hard to come by.. Try it out in the fields near Whiterun just to be sure nothing else is in the way... and be careful.... You can easily piss the dragon off by hitting it or its minions... You do not want a pissed off Durnehviir.. trust me.

How do I summon Durnehviir shout?

  • Spend three dragon souls to learn the words of Durnehviir's shout.
  • Summon Durnehviir three times while outside of the Soul Cairn in order to learn Soul Tear.

  • How do I learn the second word of Durnehviir shout?

Once you kill one, you'll automatically absorb its soul. Now head to your Magic menu and scroll down to Shouts. Imbue the desired shout with a dragon soul, and equip it. Once this is done, you can press R2/RB to activate it (or R1 if you're playing Skyrim: Special Edition on PS4).
