Are horses slower with armor?

Are horses slower with armor? - Man in Black Jacket Carrying Black Backpack Walking on Green Grass Field

Recently I was watching a Minecraft stream and it looked like horses with armor where slower than the ones without armor. Is this a game mechanic or are some horses just faster than the others?

Best Answer

I have played many hours of Minecraft and I have never noticed my horse go slower. So if it does, it is so minuscule that the armor would be worth it.

Also Google your question; there are several videos testing this, including a Mythbusting episode by Xisumavoid:

The armor test starts at 1:20.

Does horse armor do anything?

When a horse dies while equipped with any horse armor, it drops its normal loot, saddle (if it had one), and the horse armor. Leather horse armor protects horses from freezing in powder snow, but it does not negate other powder snow effects (e.g., falling through, inability to jump).

Do horses slow down in Minecraft?

A slow horse offers almost no benefit as they will be slightly faster than the player's walk speed, but certainly slower than the player's sprint speed. If you breed two horses, the resulting foal will have the average of the two parent's stats.

Can you ride a horse with horse armor?

In order to ride a Horse, all you need is a Saddle. Unfortunately, you cannot make a saddle, you have to find one. You can find them occasionally in chests around the world. Optionally, you can put Horse Armor on Horses (not Donkey's or Mules).

Does horse armor matter in Minecraft?

It provides more protection, and it is much rarer. Diamond Horse Armor is still the best type to use for protection when it comes to horse armor. Leather Horse Armor can also be dyed as of 1.14.
