Are multiple Minecraft licenses required to play multi-player?

Are multiple Minecraft licenses required to play multi-player? - Aerial View of Soccer Field

I bought Minecraft with the goal of playing with my kids, but it appears to be impossible to do this without buying a new license for each kid (that I want to play with concurrently). Am I correct that I am forced to buy Minecraft all over again if I want to play with them?

Best Answer

You are correct.

A single copy of Minecraft allows one person to play at once. If multiple people want to play at the same time, each will need their own copy and their own account.

Can I play Minecraft on two computers with the same account?

You can play at the same time using different devices, on the same account. However, only one of those accounts can join public servers. The others must stay on singleplayer mode. Otherwise, you may get kicked, or even banned, from the server.

Can you have multiple users on one Minecraft account?

To use multiple Microsoft accounts on one computer, you can create a different computer user account for each purchase of Minecraft you have. Note: Each Minecraft purchase will use a different Microsoft account login.

Do I need multiple Minecraft accounts?

You only need one copy of the actual game installed if they are taking turns playing. If you want them to play multiplayer, you will need to purchase two accounts, one for each kid. This also allows them to easily have their own name and "skin" in game.

Do I need to buy Minecraft for each child?

Each player needs their own Minecraft account, so you'll have to pay again if you want to play with your child: one account for you, one for your child. When you see a bunch of children clustered together with tablets and phones playing Minecraft, this is likely how they are doing it.
