Battlefield 1942 not running

I used to play Battlefield 1942 all the time. It worked fine. Then one day, It refused to run, saying that I need to log in with administrator privileges in order to run it. I was already logged in as an administrator, so this line greatly confused me. Does anyone know of this problem? If so, is there any way that I can fix this?

How do I get Battlefield 1942 to work?

BF 1942 is not longer supported by EA. The game is basically abandon ware. I own a copy of the game its in my closet along with a bunch of old PC games. Occasionally I play Battlefield 2 & 3 on PC and Bad Company 2.

Can you still play Battlefield 1942?

EA is now offering Battlefield 1942 as a free download (opens in new tab) on Origin. The series' 2002 progenitor is listed in the demos section, but the official site (opens in new tab) is clear that it's fully free-to-play.

Is Battlefield 1942 still free?

The system requirements recommend Windows 7, directX 9. c through 11 so it should just run on win10 without having to do anything.
