Could the 5:4 aspect ratio of my monitor affect videogames performance?
For starters I would like to mention my PC's specs:
- OS: Windows 7 64 bit
- CPU: AMD FX 6350 3.9GHz
- RAM: Dual Channel 6GB 1333MHz
- HDD: 500GB SATA III
- MOBO: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
- GPU: Radeon HD 6750
I have always had to play modern games in the lowest/low settings to get a moderate (not high) performance. What modern games? Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm, ArmA 2, Natural Selection 2 and most recently Payday 2.
My Monitor is a Viewsonic VG930m. Commonly running at 1280x1024, however, when I want to play games I usually have to lower my resolution to 1024x768 and graphics to lowest settings (this is the case with Payday 2 and I feel like going 800x600 because it still kinda slows).
I asked my friend how his laptop performs with Payday 2 and he says it performs just fine with the default settings. His laptop has Intel HD Graphics and I'm really wondering how my PC is performing lower even having a dedicated GPU and much better CPU.
And so I was thinking that perhaps modern games are coded and optimized for today's standard aspect ratio 16:9 and perform worse when having to adjust to my monitors' aspect ratio. Could this be the case? Am I missing something else here? Any information is appreciated.
Thanks for reading and looking forward to your answers.

Does aspect ratio affect game performance?
16:10 is an aspect ratio, it does not directly affect FPS in any way. The resolution and FOV do affect FPS. FOV essentially never affects the frame rate. In theory, in some sort of benchmark it should, but in 99% of games it simply doesn't.Does aspect ratio matter for gaming?
There is no absolute correct aspect ratio for gaming, as user preferences constantly shift, as do computer and console games. There are some benefits to each of the most common monitor aspect ratios. The best aspect ratio will also give you the best benefits of dual monitor gaming. What is a good aspect ratio for a gaming monitor?
Widescreen is also best for most gamers because it fits the layout of most modern PC and console games. The only exception is that if you prefer an ultrawide monitor, then you should look for a display with a 21:9 aspect ratio \u2013 or simply use a dual-monitor setup.Does the size of the monitor affect gaming performance?
No. It all depends on resolution, not screen size. If you increase resolution, the number of pixels the graphics card has to draw will increase, which will decrease frames per second. However, if you increase the screen size, nothing changes, according to the computer, as size isn't tied with pixel count.DO MULTIPLE MONITORS HURT GAMING PERFORMANCE?
