Detecting and Executing, then using conditional in command block

I am currently in 1.9 (15w47c), and I have a command block running this command:
/execute @a ~ ~ ~ detect ~ ~ ~+1 minecraft:barrier 0 tp @p ~ ~ ~-2
It works, but the output is [15:17:55] Failed to execute 'detect' as betterjakers, so any conditional command blocks around it will not work. Any way to fix this?

How do you use command blocks with conditional?
"Conditional": A command block in conditional mode will only execute its command after the command block behind it has executed successfully. ("behind it" in the sense of opposite to the direction the command block is facing, regardless of chain direction or even if chaining is occurring). How do you make an IF THEN statement in Minecraft?
Type the command in the chat window and press the Enter key to run the command. Once the cheat has been entered, the flame particle will appear directly 1 block in front of the entity running the command. How do Conditional Command Blocks work in Minecraft 1.15? [Tutorial]
