Dirt is turning into grass

I'm trying to make a baseball field on Minecraft. The texture pack I have is awesome, but there is nothing I can use for a dirt. I tried sand or stained clay but it doesn't look right.

Dirt is the best but I can't keep it to stay dirt next to the grass, obviously. How do I keep dirt next to grass?

Coarse dirt looks almost identical to dirt, but grass will not grow on it:

If in survival, you can find it in mega taiga, mesa and savanna biomes. It can also be crafted using normal dirt and gravel:

How does dirt become grass?

You have to be in your world and relatively close to the chunk for it to actually load. Other than that, it meets all the criteria for grass to grow (read the "growth" section). So, your grass did not grow because you were not in your world, and the chunks with the grass blocks were not loaded.

Does dirt turn into grass underground?

Usage. Coarse Dirt serves as a variant of regular Dirt, however, it does not grow Grass.
