Does recalling an explorer and then resuming the exploration affect the quality of loot collected? - Person in Red Jacket Standing on Rock Formation

Sometimes I recall my explorers at night, just to be on the safe side. But in the morning, I realize that they have health and resources left to keep going, so I make them explore a little farther. The exploring path looks something like this:

            <----------------------------------------------|vault
                                48h exploring
            ------------>                                  |vault
6h returning (at double the exploring speed)
            <------------ |vault
            12h exploring

It's my understanding that explorers get better stuff (and also face tougher monsters) the longer they are in the wastes, but I'd like to understand better the effects of recalling an explorer and then sending them a bit further in the wastes. In my example above, what would be the resulting hike, in terms of loot quality? In terms of loot quality and monster strength, would the equivalent path be the same as if I had not recalled the explorer, just having paused the trip during the time they were returning? Like so:

<----------------------------------------------------------|vault
                                60h exploring

Or is the return trip taken into account? Like so:

            <----------------------------------------------|vault
                                48h exploring

Has anyone experimented with this? If not, how would one set up an experiment to gather evidence on the subject? Does it matter?

When should I recall my dweller?

You can recall the dweller at any time, though they will take half the time they were exploring to return to the Vault and bring back the spoils of their excursion. Dweller does not suffer damage or radiation when returning from the Wasteland.

How long should you let your dweller explore?

My longest runs so far are around 36 hours of exploration and 18 hours return trip. The low level luck people I used to send out would still bring back rusty whatever guns and BB guns even towards the end of their trips. They did some times come back with a nice rifle or the like but that was rare.

Does junk have a purpose in fallout shelter?

The primary use of junk is to craft weapons or outfits which requires the appropriate crafting room and blueprint. These craftable items have the same three tier system and will generally require junk from their equivalent tier and below to craft.

How many items can a dweller carry in the wasteland?

Dwellers will find items every hour in the wastes, plus some time fixed events such as: Broadcast Tower, National Guard, etc. However, their inventory do have a limit of 100 items. After picking 100 items, they won't pickup anymore, although they show up in the log that they have found something.
