Fire damage in the Nether

Fire damage in the Nether - Crop male with burning lighter and cigarette smoking for reducing stress in light of lamp

I was recently in the nether for the first time since the last update and i suddenly took constant (and fast-acting) fire damage but to my surprise there was no fire, lava or mobs (no source of heat) within an 8 block radius. Does the netherack conduct sufficient heat to apply burn damage?

Best Answer

No, netherrack alone cannot burn players.

You may have been hit by a ghast. If so, usually the ghast would blow up an area around you. Is this the case?

Another possibility is that you got hit by an arrow. If you are in multiplayer, an arrow with fire aspect could have been fired from another player.

Also, make sure it is fire damage, not hunger or fall damage.

Other than those points, this may just be a bug caused by lag or other reasons.

How do you stop fire damage in the Nether?

You can use a Potion of Fire Resistance to negate lava/fire damage, or maybe a Potion of Regeneration/Potion of Health to hold off death until you are safe. Golden Apples can do both. You can try to get somewhere safe and die there/put items in a chest so you can come back after you respawn and get the items.

Does fire burn forever in the Nether?

But its handiest feature is its flammability. Light a block of netherrack on fire, and it'll burn forever.

How do you protect a fire in the Nether?

Unlike normal fire, soul fire cannot spread and does not burn any flammable blocks nearby. Fire that naturally spreads into a valid nether portal frame activates the portal.
