I was wondering how do I connect TF2 to steam client? When ever I try to go into my backpack, it says I need to connect to steam.

Login to steam. This will work in the Steam client or your browser, but it may be easier to follow the instructions in a web browser.

Go to TF2's store page.

Click Play Game where would normally you would Add to Cart :

Why is TF2 not in my Steam library?

TF2 and DOTA 2 are in everybody's library. If you never installed or played the game, it won't actually show up in your library. It simply means those licenses are automatically tied to your account. They cannot be removed and as they're F2P games, they also don't count towards the gamecount and badge.

How do you direct connect in TF2?

When playing on the server, go into your console (using the ~ button, next to "1" on your keyboard, after enabling the console in your options -> advanced). In the console, type "status". This will give you some information about the server and players on it. The server IP is in the line udp/ip.
