What is the Nether overworld ratio?

The Nether and the Overworld's coordinates don't line up in a 1:1 ratio, as distances don't work the same in the two dimensions. Instead, the ratio is 1:8, meaning that traveling one block in the Nether equates to traveling eight blocks in the Overworld (although this doesn't apply for the Y-axis).

Locations in the Nether correlate to Overworld coordinates, but horizontal Overworld distances are scaled down by a ratio of 8:1 for travel in the Nether. Therefore, traveling one block in the Nether means traveling eight blocks in the Overworld.

Why do my nether portals connect to the same place?

The key is that the game looks for the closest portal in the destination dimension, so if you build both portals in the "right" places (overworld x and z divided by 8 in the nether), before lighting either of them (Obviously you need an original set of portals to do this), then you can connect them properly.
