Minecraft loads chunks very slowly even on SSD

Minecraft loads chunks very slowly even on SSD - Abstract background with white glassy drops

I clean installed Minecraft and tried to make a world. It starts saying "Building terrain" for about 30 seconds, then gets stuck on "Downloading terrain". The RAM usage goes to about 1300 MB during this process. I then finally get into the freshly generated world, but everything is all blue. I look around with a nice 200FPS, but I'm just falling into the void.

Before this, Minecraft would generate the world at a considerably fast speed, but hang when generating chunks very badly.

I have it running on my new SSD with an i7, R9 290 and 24GB RAM, so I don't think it's my hardware... I tried with Optifine, and without, both cause the same result.

This is all singleplayer.

Try getting Optifine and turning optimization features on. If that doesn't work or won't work, try allocating more RAM. To do that, in the launcher go to edit profile. In there, check JVM arguments and there will be probably -Xmx1G in it. Change the number to allocate more RAM.

Why is my Minecraft load so slow?

If you're experiencing slow performance due to connectivity, you may need to pause or stop any current downloads, change your network settings, or you may require a faster Internet connection.

How do you increase chunk loads in Minecraft?

The most common methods of making sure that chunks outside of the Spawn Chunks are loaded, is moving an entity (usually an Item) through a Nether portal, or using hoppers on the chunk border between the spawn chunks or any other chunk that is always loaded and an unloaded chunk.

Why are no chunks loading in Minecraft?

Make sure your world is not too many/less chunks. Check your WiFi. Another reason your world may not be loading fully is because of WiFi. If you have 2 or less bars, (or none) your world will not load.

How do you constantly load a chunk?

Use a Nether Portal. One of the most efficient ways to maintain chunks constantly loading in Minecraft is using a Nether portal. In this case, you'll have to make sure any object is moving through the portal.
