Playstation 3 controllers won't connect or turn on even when connected via cable

Playstation 3 controllers won't connect or turn on even when connected via cable - Network cables as supply for work of system

All of a sudden both my PS3 controllers won't light up or connect even when directly connected with a cable. I thought it might just be a dead battery but the controller wont' light up or turn on at all with different cables and power supplies. I tested the cable as well.

Can I do something to troubleshoot? It seems suspicious that both controllers would go on the fritz at the exact same time.

Why is my PS3 saying connect the controller using a USB cable?

It's very simple. Just connect your controller to the console with a USB cable. Once the console detects the controller, it will move to the next screen, which is the software installation. Keep a pen drive loaded with the latest PS3 console software.
