Steam game transfer [duplicate] - Woman in Gray T-shirt and Blue Denim Jeans Sitting on White Chair

My previous computer has basically died. And I was wondering if I could transfer all of my steam games onto my new computer? I have re installed steam, and a bunch of my games aren't there to be redownloaded, probably because they were on a free sale.

Best Answer

If you want to download free games you had previously, just search for them in the store and download. Only games that you have bought(or received as gifts) will show up on your games list as uninstalled, free games will never show there but can be downloaded all the same from the store.

Examples of such games: Loadout, Alien Swarm.

Can Steam game be copied?

Yes you can, you just have to paste the game files in your steamapps>common folder, and once done choose the game from steam library options and select the same install directory where you pasted the game, steam will verify the files and may download some extra files or updates if any and voila you're done.

What happens if you buy two copies of a game on Steam?

May I Buy or Sell my extra copies? No. This violates the Steam Subscriber Agreement and may result in all involved Steam accounts becoming permanently disabled.

Can I copy paid Steam games to another computer?

Short answer, yes! You can easily transfer Steam games to another computer, without having to redownload all the games again, using two methods actually. The one method of moving Steam games to a new PC is much faster than the other, but I will cover both in the tutorial, starting with the faster of the two.

Answer 2

I do not recall Steam ever giving out games for free in sales. (There are some games that are free, but those are free forever. You just need to re-find them on the store and redownload them.) Most likely you downloaded the game on a Free Weekend -event. Those games do not work after the weekend, unless you buy the game.

Answer 3

You probably mean free weekend games. They are only tied to your account during the free weekend, then they get removed from your account unless you bought them. All other games are permanently tied to your account.
