What's the difference between userid and uuid in Minecraft - White Metal High-rise Viewing Deck Building

Observe, in launcher_profiles.json we have right under the authenticationDatabase:

  "userid": "<uuid like but not the same>",
  "uuid": "<player uuid>",

On each re-setup of the launcher, that userid is the same but not the same as the uuid. How is this userid obtained, and what is different about it.

It may be important to note that before being a mojang account is was a much smaller number only id.
