When I accidentally clicked "resign" while the game was on my opponent's turn, I got this message:

You can only resign when it is your turn. But fear not! If your opponent does not make a move in a reasonable amount of time they will be resigned automatically.

What is the "reasonable amount of time" referred to, here?

Games that are inactive past these time limits will be auto-resigned by the game server. For Random opponent games, auto-resignation will occur on the 6th day following the last game action. For Non-random opponent games, auto-resignation will occur on the 12th day following the last game action.

How do you end a game on Words with Friends without resigning?

One way the game is over is if a player places all the tiles from their rack with no more available to draw. The other way is if three consecutive turns have passed without any points being made. This usually happens when both players do not have anywhere to play their last tiles.

Can you tie in Words with Friends?

After the last tile is played, the opposing player will lose points equal to the sum of the value of his remaining tiles. This amount is then awarded to the player who placed the last tile. In the case of a tie, the player who had the highest score before the game ended is the winner.
