I can collect grass, wood, and sand but when it comes to things like stone I can break it but I can't collect it after.

What am I doing wrong ? How am I supposed to collect them ?

You can punch stone all you want, but it won't drop anything. You will need to craft a pickaxe first. You can craft a wooden pickaxe in a crafting table like so:

How do I get stone without a pickaxe?

To obtain stone from mining, use a pickaxe with the Silk Touch attachment. It can also be found in chests in villages with stonemasons. It can also be made by smelting cobblestone in a furnace. Stones can be used as an ingredient in crafting Redstone repeater, or trading for emeralds with stonemasons.
