Why can't I break or place blocks in Minecraft? [duplicate]

Why can't I break or place blocks in Minecraft? [duplicate] - Photograph of Medals on White Shapes

I was playing on a single player modded survival and I went to check the forums for help with one mod. When I got back on my game I couldn't mine or place blocks and I've tried switching to /gamemode 0 but this only happened in my modded survival. I can still place and break blocks in vanilla Minecraft.

Not being able to do that means you're in adventure mode. Remember that now you can use /gamemode a, s, or c to change your gamemode to avoid things like this happening again.

Why wont it let me break or block in Minecraft?

Also clicking does not break (many) blocks, you need to click and hold. This doesn't apply to Creative mode. Initially only a few block types can be feasibly broken using only your hand, including dirt/grass, sand, wood and leaves, so try left-clicking and holding and see if you can break these types of blocks.

How do you duplicate a block in Minecraft?

If you cannot destroy blocks, either you are holding a sword, or you are in Adventure Mode.
