My girlfriend and I bought Diablo 3 specifically so that we could play couch co-op mode on Xbox 360. We have no interest in playing online or either of us playing solo. Since we're always in co-op mode, we can't do anything with the followers.

For awhile we've just been stashing all of the follower-only items that we pick up with the intention that MAYBE one of us would get around to playing solo strictly to beef up the followers. But lately we've been thinking that would be a total waste of time since the followers never join us anyway.

So is it better to just salvage these items as we find them or is there any possible way of using either the items or the followers in co-op mode? (Also, just last night we picked up ROS for Xbox 360 if that makes any difference in the answer.)

Do followers benefit from set items Diablo 3?

Followers benefit from set bonuses but not from Legendary Gems.

Should I use followers in Diablo 3?

Followers are an important part of the Diablo III meta, but their proper optimization is often undervalued. Following the guidelines below, you can take your follower performance to a new level, and you will definitely notice the improvement in your solo Greater Rift Pushing attempts and Nephalem Rift speed farming.

Do Legendary Items work on followers?

Followers do not benefit from Legendary Gems equipped on them except Esoteric Alteration & Mutilation Guard. This is extremely useful to help them survive in speed content and use a token that gives Follower all skills or halves its Cooldowns.

Do followers take XP in Diablo 3?

Followers do not inherently affect monster HP/difficulty, experience (XP) share, or item/gold drops. They're designed to make single-player easier, and there is no statistical disadvantage for using them. They contribute 20% of their added Magic Find, Gold Find, and XP bonuses.
