Are Friend Safari Pokémon gender locked?

I have this Ponyta, Pyroar, Braixen Safari and have been trying to get a male Pyroar off it. At some point, I noticed something must be wrong and paid attention to the genders I was encountering, here are the results:

Out of 7 Ponytas, 1 was male
Out of 15 Braixen, 1 was female
Out of 30+ Pyroar, none was male.

This leads me to the conclusion that the Pokémon in the Friend Safari are at least very strongly shifted towards one gender, in some cases possibly even locked to one gender.

Can anyone confirm or disprove this theory? I don't want to spend hours searching for that male Pyroar if it just doesn't exist...

How are friend safari types determined?

Each Safari has designated Pok\xe9mon that can be encountered, all belonging to a designated type; these are determined by the Friend's friend code and will not change. As such, any players who successfully register a given friend code in their 3DS will all be able to access the exact same Friend Safari.

How do I change my friend safari type?

To change your safari code, all you have to do is reformat your 3DS to the factory settings (from the settings tab). This will generate a new friend code for you and thus an all new safari.

It also can include various starter Pok\xe9mon such as Ivysaur, Wartortle and Quilladin. All Pok\xe9mon encountered within Friend Safari are Level 30. Finally, many of the Pok\xe9mon found within the Friend Safari have got a chance of having their Hidden Ability, including the Kalos Pok\xe9mon.

Can you get hidden abilities in friend safari?

Pokemon in the Friend Safari will not appear with their Hidden Abilities unless your friend has beaten the Elite Four, which is to say Hidden Abilities will not appear unless the third slot in the Friend Safari is filled.
