Let's suppose (solo) I can clear T1 rifts just fine, but T5 and T6 rifts are just impossible to clear alone. But I still want that higher legendary drop chance (with the extra gold and experience being icing on the cake). What's to stop me from joining a T6 game with three other incredibly well-geared characters, and (assuming they don't kick me), just letting them do all the dirty work. Would I still get the same drop rate bonus as the other three players, or does Blizzard have some sort of mechanism in place to prevent this sort of abuse? (Allowing the other players to kick the 'abuser' isn't going to cut it because it could be that those other players are my friends who want to gear me up real quick.)

Does higher torment drop better gear?

Higher difficulty, above T1 does NOT give you better loot. It gives you more loot. Once you clear a Greater Rift 70 solo in time, it unlocks the chance to get Primals - which are perfect Ancients.

What torment level is gr70?

Torment XV requires GR 70.

Does torment level affect greater rifts?

There are two types of Rift: Standard Nephalem Rifts, which are locked to your Torment level, so the harder your Torment level is, the harder they are. Greater Rifts, which you pick a difficulty level for, based on the highest level GR you've finished in the past.

How do torment levels work?

Each level of Torment increases the experience gain and gold/loot that drops. Torment XVI (or Torment 16, which is what I'm gonna call it from now on because we're not actually in ancient Rome) has a 7000% gold bonus and a 17,000% XP bonus, and of course comes with a commensurate increase in difficulty.
