Is there any way you can stop settlers from stealing your power armor? [duplicate]

I witnessed one of my settlements being attacked by super mutants some time ago and when I went to equip my Power Armour some sneaky settler had stolen it and was out fist fighting with them!

Is there any way you can make the power armour available to you and your companion only?

More specifically can I stop random settlers stealing my power armour?

I have temporarily caged my power armour within fences without a gate so that they can't reach it but that means I waste steal by trashing the fence when I want the armour!

How do I stop settlers from taking my stuff?

There are still a few options; Keep your best equipment and power armor in a depopulated settlement, such as Red Rocket truck stop. If you haven't sent settlers there, then settlers can't steal your equipment.

Can other people take my power armor?

Nope, you can't leave it. It'll get auto-added back to your inventory, even in a station. But you can put armour pieces on it, and they'll remain attached, which saves a lot already, and there's no reason to have weaker parts (except maybe the excavator) in storage.

Can you tell settlers to get in power armor?

The other way is to talk to them, tell them to go 'there', target the power armor and as long as its 'complete' (ie has a fusion core) the go/stay command will turn into 'enter power armor'.

Do settlers use up fusion cores?

Leaving a fusion core in a power armor parked in a settlement may result in settlers, companions and even invaders wearing it. While the core will not drain, the power armor may be left in unexpected places.
